As parents, we know how hard it is to watch our children struggle as we search for ways to help. If you’ve been there too, please know you’ve found the right place. So, take a deep breath, relax those shoulders, and let us show you just how quickly we can turn things around.
Using EBLI (Evidenced Based Literacy Instruction) our students make explosive growth in months, not years! We are so proud to be the only tutoring center in SW Ontario to offer EBLI instruction, and one of the few in Ontario to utilize this effective, accelerated teaching method.
The Clubhouse Difference:
At our center, we utilize a speech-to-print approach called linguistic phonics and explicitly teach the logic of the English alphabetic code.
01This approach starts with the sounds of English and how they correspond to different written letters. We teach kids that a single sound can be spelled by 1, 2, 3, or 4 letters.

Next we explore how the same sound can be spelled in multiple ways. Let’s take the sound of /j/ as in the word jam. That sound can be spelled by:
j (jump) g (gym) ge (page) dge (bridge) d (graduate)
Your child is taught to decode advanced spelling patterns early on in instruction.

Additionally, we delve into single spellings and their ability to represent multiple sounds. For instance, consider the letter “y,” which can be found in words representing four distinct sounds, as demonstrated by:
/y/ as in: year, long /ee/ as in: any , long /i/ as in: type and short /i/ as in: gym
04As kids learn the necessary skills to decode (read) these words effectively, they are also learning how to encode (spell) accurately. All lessons are conducted systematically with knowledge building on previously taught concepts.

We cover all the foundational skills of reading, writing, and spelling (including phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and handwriting). We base our instruction on the latest insights from the Science of Reading (S.O.R.) research, which explores how children learn to read.

All great journeys start with a solid plan. Our comprehensive evaluation is the first step on your child’s path to excellence in literacy. We will assess several key areas to gain a clear understanding of your child’s current abilities and challenges including:
- Phonological awareness
- Decoding/encoding skills
- Reading fluency
- Comprehension skills
- Working memory and more

You will be provided with a detailed report. Understanding your child’s current skill level is key to planning a course of action. You will know your child’s exact grade level percentile in comparison to the national norm sample of grade level peers. From there, progress monitoring takes place every two – four weeks and you’re kept up to date every step of the way.

With this information, we will create a personalized plan of instruction to meet your child’s unique needs.
All that’s left is to decide on the frequency of instruction. We recommend two sessions on a weekly basis for a minimum of two months.

With a Master’s Degree in Mathematics, nearly ten years of teaching experience, and certifications in EBLI and PBL, Ms. Maira offers comprehensive, interactive support in both math and literacy.
Ms. Rochelle
Primary Math Intervention
Ms. Rochelle, an OCT-certified teacher with six years of experience and a Bachelor’s in Education, connects math to real-life experiences, fostering problem-solving, creativity, and a love for learning.
Maria Ostapenko
Registered Psychotherapist
Maria is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) with a Master of Education and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. Her combined experience as an educator and therapist uniquely equips her to support students and their families with empathy and insight as they navigate academic and behavioral challenges.
Cristina Alt
Owner/Founder
Cristina, the founder and owner of Clubhouse Tutoring is a certified EBLI literacy tutor with a lifelong passion for education. She employs the most effective teaching methods for accelerated results, personalizing each student’s learning to help them reach their full potential.
